Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Unit at Samaritan Hospital opened in November 2005 as an answer to the call of the community and the everchanging regulations of medicine.
Under new Medicare guidelines, patients with simple joint replacements or mild neurologic conditions no longer qualified for treatment at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital on Versailles Road. Management stepped up and began looking for other options to serve the people of the community.
Kerry Gillihan, CEO and President Cardinal Hill Healthcare System began talks with Frank Beirne, CEO Samaritan Hospital. At the end of negotiations a beautiful partnership bloomed. Cardinal Hill Healthcare System would rent the entire 7th floor of Samaritan Hospital to treat the patients Medicare no longer supported at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital (an acute physical rehabilitation facility).
The new Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Unit at Samaritan Hospital offered the community 34 private beds and the same quality of care as the hospital on Versailles Road.
