Providing the best healthcare possible requires that we facilitate an environment that is safe and healthy for all those who work and live in it.

FAQ
What is considered a tobacco product?

Cigarettes, chewing and dipping tobacco, cigars, pipes, etc.

Why are tobacco products specifically being prohibited?
The primary reason is secondhand smoke.  Not only do smokers feel the ill-effects of smoking, but the secondhand smoke they emit is responsible for an estimated 38,000 deaths of non-smokers per year.

Do employees, patients and visitors have to quit using tobacco?

No.  Cardinal Hill isn’t asking anyone to quit.  This policy means that no one can use tobacco products on Cardinal Hill property.

Is tobacco usage allowed anywhere?

Tobacco use will not be permitted in or around any building or parking lot owned or leased by Cardinal Hill Hospital.

What about people who use smoking as a stress-reliever?
Cardinal Hill is not forcing anyone to quit smoking.  However, this policy is being implemented in the interest of creating a safe and healthy environment for our patients, employees and visitors.
