SAFETY AND SECURITY

Because your safety and that of your family and other visitors is of prime importance to us, we have programs designed to make our facility as safe as possible.

While you are a patient, the hospital staff may have a fire or safety drill for employees.  This training is given to assure maximum safety for our patients; therefore, please do not be disturbed if you hear or see evidence of such a practice drill.

To provide you with the best of care, frequent nursing checks will be a necessary as part of your care.

While you are a patient or while you are visiting a loved one, we ask that you review the following:

·        The signal device in the bed shall be used to call a nurse when needed.  Rather than attempt any movement or action that could result in an accidental strain or fall, please call for assistance.  An “emergency call” device also is located in the bathroom.  Never hesitate to call for assistance.

·        Do not try to lower or climb over bed side-rails.  Do not leave the patient unattended with bedside rails down.  This is one of the leading causes of hospital accidents.

·        Do not remove restraints.  If a restraint appears to need removal or adjustment, call the nursing staff.  Do not loosen restraints, either, as this can lead to injury.  If there is a problem with restraints, notify the nursing staff.

·        If patients’ desire a sitter for close observation for their safety a family member can provide this service or we can assist the family in selecting an agency.  The patient/family would be responsible for incurring this expense.  Most insurance companies do not pay for this service.

·        Please listen to your physician, and follow all of his or her instructions.

·        Please do not bring any plug-in appliances to the hospital without prior approval.

·        Report any faulty equipment or other problems to your nurse.

·        When floors are being cleaned, please do not walk on the wet areas.

·        Cardinal Hill Specialty Hospital is a smoke-free facility.  No smoking is allowed anywhere in the building.

·        No cell phones are to be used in the facility.  Cell phones may interfere with vital medical equipment.

ISOLATION

While you are at CHSH, your physician may feel it is necessary for you to be in isolation due to a possible infection.  If you are in isolation, any visitor who comes in should be wearing a gown, gloves, and/or a mask.  Visitors will be limited in number and length of their visit.
