Once seen in clinic, a patient may be recommended for Vestibular Rehabilitation.
Vestibular Rehabilitation is a therapeutic approach to control dizzines; and disequalibrium associated with vestibular pathology. While medications have been designed to suppress vestibular functions, rehabilitation through exercise serves as an alternate form of treatment designed to promote central nervous system compensation for inner ear deficits.
Decrease Dizziness
Increase Balance Function
Increase General Activity Levels
Before a specific exercise program is initiated, therapists at Cardinal Hill evaluate the individual's musculoskeletal system, balance, gait and vertigo.
Exercise programs are developed to target daily activities affected by vestibular disorders. Rehabilitation is centered on activities that encourage the brain to habituate the vertigo/dizziness response, improve coordination and muscle responses and exercises to promote VestibuloOcular Reflex (VOR) compensation, which fosters clear vision and balance while moving.
