Pediatric Center Assistant

Duties

Pediatric Center Assistants help therapists and staff at the Cardinal Hill Lyman V. Ginger Pediatric Center.  They assist therapists in preparing activities for therapy, organize therapy rooms and clean equipment.  Volunteers also assist in the waiting room with Story Time or games as well as make copies, file, etc. for staff.  Pediatric Center Assistants may also be used to motivate patients during therapy, however they may not provide any hands-on-care.

The Pediatric Center Assistant will be trained by the Pediatric Exercise Specialist.  Volunteers will be in daily contact with Pediatric Center staff, children and parents and collaborate with department staff and with other departments as necessary.

Qualifications

Pediatric Center Assistants must be at least 14 years of age. Patience and a sincere interest in children's welfare is required.

All volunteers must attend a general volunteer orientation as well as a department specific orientation.

Requires the ability to perform moderately difficult manipulative skills, walk, sit, reach, crouch, bend, and stand for prolonged periods.  Ability to work with young children.

Adequate conversational English is required in order that the individual be able to take direction from management, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with patients and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines and understand the employee handbook and all hospital policies.
