Therapeutic Garden Assistant

Duties

Garden volunteers assist therapists and patients as they work in the therapeutic garden, a fully wheelchair-accessible garden with raised beds and adaptive tools. Garden Assistants work to weed, water, plant, and clean tools. They also assist therapists by transporting patients to and from the garden. They help maintain an orderly appearance of the Therapeutic Garden.

Qualifications

Garden volunteers must be at least 14 years of age. Prior garden experience is helpful but not required.

All volunteers must attend a general volunteer orientation as well as a Therapeutic Garden specific orientation & training.

Requires the ability to perform moderately difficult manipulative skills, ability to sit, reach, crouch, bend, and stand for prolonged periods.

Adequate conversational English is required in order that the individual be able to take direction from management, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with patients and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines, and understand the employee handbook and all hospital policies.
