Pediatric Center Assistant

Duties

Pediatric Center Assistants help therapists and staff at the Cardinal Hill Lyman V. Ginger Pediatric Center.  They assist therapists in preparing activities for therapy, organize therapy rooms and clean equipment.  Volunteers also assist in the waiting room with Story Time or games as well as make copies, file, etc. for staff.  Pediatric Center Assistants may also be used to motivate patients during therapy, however they may not provide any hands-on-care.

The Pediatric Center Assistant will be trained by the Pediatric Exercise Specialist.  Volunteers will be in daily contact with Pediatric Center staff, children and parents and collaborate with department staff and with other departments as necessary.

Pet Therapy Assistant

Duties

Pet Therapy Assistants help with Pet Therapy by:

  • Transporting patients to and from Pet Therapy
  • Assisting patients as they interact with pet therapy dogs
  • Cleaning, rearranging and organizing room before and after therapy
  • Walking room to room to invite clients to join pet therapy prior to the session.

Therapeutic Garden Assistant

Duties

Garden volunteers assist therapists and patients as they work in the therapeutic garden, a fully wheelchair-accessible garden with raised beds and adaptive tools. Garden Assistants work to weed, water, plant, and clean tools. They also assist therapists by transporting patients to and from the garden. They help maintain an orderly appearance of the Therapeutic Garden.

Recreation Assistant

Duties

Recreation Assistants assist the Therapeutic Recreation staff with the following duties:

  • Visit and play games with patients in the Will Coffman Recreation Room
  • Transport patients to and from the Recreation Room
  • Assist patients with activities such as Bingo, gardening, card games, crafts, and parties
  • Help Recreation staff brainstorm activities for patients
  • Read magazines or books to patients
  • Deliver reading materials, games, etc to patients who have difficulty coming to the Recreation Room

Brain Injury Unit Assistant

Duties

The Brain Injury Unit Assistant will help make a patient's stay at Cardinal Hill a more pleasant experience by providing personal attention to the patients in an unhurried manner and to relieve the nursing and secretarial staff by performing various duties. This volunteer may be asked to participate in the therapy gym by cleaning equipment, retrieving equipment for therapists, playing games with patients, and encouraging patients.

Spinal Cord/General Rehabilitation Unit Assistant

Duties

The Spinal Cord/General Rehabilitation Unit Assistant will help make a patient's stay at Cardinal Hill a more pleasant experience by providing personal attention to the patients in an unhurried manner and to relieve the nursing and secretarial staff by performing various duties. This volunteer may be asked to participate in the therapy gym by cleaning equipment, retrieving equipment for therapists, playing games with patients, and encouraging patients.

Duties

This volunteer may be asked to participate in the therapy gym by cleaning equipment, retrieving equipment for therapists, playing games with patients, and encouraging patients.
