Family Accommodations

Your Case Manager can provide a listing of hotels and motels conveniently located near the hospital. Family members who need overnight accommodations but cannot afford to stay in a motel may wish to consider the following housing options:

Hospital Hospitality House
242 S. Limestone
(859) 254-8998

The Hospital Hospitality House is located .5 miles from Samaritan Hospital. It has dormitory-style rooms for people who have a family member in any Lexington hospital. Two people per family, ages 14 and over may stay at Hospital Hospitality House. Showers, laundry facilities and a stocked kitchen are available for daytime use to out-of-town visitors, even if no overnight stay is expected. Breakfast and lunch are self-serve, and a hot dinner is prepared and served to families staying overnight. To make arrangements for daytime or overnight use, please ask your Case Manager for assistance.

Visitors

Visiting hours are 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. every day. Your visitors may be with you whenever you are not involved in therapy, personal care or a teaching session.

After your initial evaluation is completed, you will be able to let your visitors know your daily schedule. Please encourage them to respect and further your program by not visiting during therapy times, except when they are specifically requested to do so. Children are welcome, but please be sure they are adequately supervised. All visitors should be free of contagious disease.

Family Involvement

Family members are an essential part of the treatment team, and their involvement is vital to the patient's success in rehabilitation. We encourage the family to visit, observe, participate in educational sessions and ask questions throughout the patient's rehabilitation program.

Family members also work closely with the Cardinal Hill social worker to ensure an uncomplicated transition from our rehabilitation unit to the patient's home and community.

Family Teaching Days

Family Teaching Days are scheduled so that all members of the rehabilitation team can work with the patient’s family. We request that one or two family members or other caregivers who will be your main helpers at home arrange to spend at least one day in the unit to learn and assist with your care. A Family Teaching Day will be scheduled for a convenient time following your initial evaluation. Please be prepared to suggest a date at the time of admission. Teaching will require most of the day, so your family will need to arrive early.

Family members will:

   • Practice learning to help you get ready for the day
   • Learn and practice your nursing care
   • Accompany you to therapy sessions to observe your progress
   • Learn to assist you in daily activities
   • Meet with the Case Manager and other members of the team

Parking

Free parking is available for visitors, including many “handicapped parking” spaces.
