Pulmonary Rehabilitation teaches people with chronic lung disease to live and breathe easier. The program teaches patients about lung disease and skills to help manage that disease.
Treatment takes place in small groups of 4-6 people. All members of the group experience similar breathing problems allowing peer support during and after therapy.
The program meets 3 days per week for 3 hours each day for 8 weeks.
A team of specially trained medical professionals including a physician, occupational therapists, physical therapists, respiratory therapist, and an exercise specialist leads therapy.
Patients receive an hour of treatment with each of the following therapies:
Occupational Therapy
Physical Therapy
Respiratory Therapy
Anyone with a diagnosis of chronic lung disease, such as:
COPD
Emphysema
Bronchitis
Chronic asthma
Pulmonary fibrosis
A recent pulmonary function test must be completed within 3 months of starting therapy
Results of a pulmonary function test (PFT) must show <60% for FVC, FEV1, or DLCO per insurance regulations
Must be a non-smoker
Continuous attendance, patients are only permitted to miss 4 days of therapy during the 8 week program
