2012 Lyal Leibrock Lifetime Acheivement Award

Cardinal Hill Announces New Pain Institute
Lexington, KY--- Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital is proud to announce the opening of the Cardinal Hill Pain Institute with nationally renowned physician, William O. Witt, MD, as Medical Director. The Cardinal Hill Pain Institute is located in the Lyman V. Ginger building on the Cardinal Hill campus at 2050 Versailles Road in Lexington.

Cardinal Hill Hospital Opens Three New Pools
Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital has opened three new pools for our patients in the new wing of our hospital located at 2050 Versailles Road. The three pools are designed to meet the needs of our patients: • The Therapeutic Pool is at kept at 95 degrees• A larger pool averages between 86-88 degrees• The third pool is a resistance swim pool The pools can be accessed by a variety of different ways: • lift chair• stairs• zero entry ramp • ladders There is a lifeguard on duty The pools are located on the ground floor of the new wing. They are located in the same area as the Cardinal Hill Pain Institute and our Outpatient Clinic. A calendar of classes will be coming out soon!

Cardinal Hill Hospital's Brain Injury Program Wins Award
Lexington, KY—On Tuesday, March 29, the Cardinal Hill Brain Injury team brought home the Medical News MediStar Consumer First Award for Brain Injury University, a community based program that assists Brain injury Survivors and their families with achieving the goal of returning to school and increasing their network of peer friends. In collaboration with the Brain Injury Alliance of Kentucky, Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital is improving the lives of the many Kentuckians who live with a Brain Injury. Brain Injury University is an educational series specifically designed by Healthcare Professionals to assist those individuals who have suffered a brain injury to achieve the following goals: understand deficits, increase knowledge and understanding as it relates to a Brain Injury, facilitate compensatory strategies to increase independence, keep up to date with the most recent research and technology, ask questions about their injury and promote rapport with healthcare providers other patients who have suffered a brain injury. These classes are structured to cover cognitive, social, physical and psychological aspects of a brain injury. Reference material and supplies are free to the patients and families. Participants have seen an increase in quality of life and are better aware of available community resources after participating in Brain Injury University. Brain Injury University beat out Baptist East Wellness Center Cancer Exercise Program, James Graham Brown Mobile Mammography Unit and Norton Healthcare’s Patient and Family Advisory Council, all Louisville based facilities. Medial News Magazine is distributed throughout the healthcare industry in Kentucky and Southern Indiana. The MediStar Awards were established in 2007 as the region’s premier venue for recognizing excellence in the business of healthcare. Cardinal Hill of Northern Kentucky
The services of Cardinal Hill of Northern Kentucky is now under the auspices of the Community Foundation of Northern Kentucky (CHNKY). On Friday, July 1, 2011, the Community Foundation assumed administrative and operational oversight of these services. The services were previously operated by Cardinal Hill Healthcare System. The services are located at 31 Spiral Drive in Florence and include adult day care, respite care, speech – language therapy, audiology, developmental intervention and occupational therapy. Services, location and staff will remain the same. The services will operate under the names Speech and Hearing of Northern Kentucky and Adult Day Care of Northern Kentucky. Says Mike Kanarek, Kentucky Easter Seal Society board chairman said, “These services will be in excellent hands at The Community Foundation of Northern Kentucky. We know that they will continue to thrive under local leadership.” Founded in Covington in 1923 as part of Kentucky Easter Seals, Cardinal Hill of Northern Kentucky enjoys a long history of pioneering services to meet pressing community needs. It was the first facility in Northern Kentucky to offer audiology services to children and adults and was the first adult day care center to offer daily care and nursing services to younger adults (18 and over), as well as those over 60. The Florence center, which opened in February 2001, is designed to best meet the goals of comprehensive rehabilitation. It focuses on new approaches in therapy utilizing specially designed spaces and equipment. These include: • A state-of-the-art speech-language clinic with speech therapy treatment rooms• An audiology lab, which holds vestibular and specialized pediatric testing equipment• Experienced professionals providing state of the art hearing aid services• Respite services – medical model for those 16 and above• Adult day health care program – medical model
