Comprehensive Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs for people with lung disease. Lung disease is the number three killer in America, responsible for one in seven deaths.

Today, more than 30 million Americans are living with chronic lung diseases such as asthma, emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Kentucky ranks as a national leader in lung-related illnesses.

To help care for the growing number of people suffering with chronic lung disorders, Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital has established inpatient and outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

Conditions Treated

Cardinal Hill’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs are multidisciplinary, designed for patients who suffer from the following chronic conditions:

  • Asthma & Bronchitis
  • Black Lung
  • Bronchiectasis COPD
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Emphysema
  • Interstitial Diseases
  • Lung Transplant
  • Major Chest Trauma
  • Neuromuscular Disorders
  • Poliomyelitis Lung Disease
  • Pulmonary Hypertension
  • Thoracic Cage Abnormalities
  • Thoracic Surgeries

Benefits of Therapy

Pulmonary Rehabilitation consists of both exercise training and educational programs to enable clients to improve their day-to-day activities and function more independently.

The benefits of Pulmonary Rehabilitation include:

Individualized programs include:

Physical Therapy

Increases the patient's endurance & strength as well as functional status

Occupational Therapy

Teaches the client self-care skills, energy conservation techniques & work simplification if necessary

Respiratory Therapy

Provides training on equipment use, oxygen needs & management of pulmonary symptoms to assure greater independence in the home

Rehab Nursing

Provides individual teaching about disease process, medication teaching & lifestyle adjustments

Social Work/Care Management

Identifies discharge planning needs & available resources

Speech Therapy

Provides diagnostic evaluation, treatment and management of conditions related to hoarseness, difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), shortness of breath, speech and other voice and airway disorders, as well as memory and thinking skills

Psychology

Addresses adjustment issues related to diagnosis

*Other related clinical services are involved as needed

Referral Information

We offer inpatient and outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation services.

To be eligible to receive treatment at Cardinal Hill's Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, a physician's referral is needed.
